all your minds are belong to me y/n
Aug. 30th, 2010 08:23 pmSO AS EVERYONE HERE WHO'S READ/SEEN LOTR PROBABLY KNOWS, THE RING NEEDS A PERMISSIONS POST LIKE BURNING. HERE IT IS, FOR YOUR PERMISSION DECIDING PLEASURE.
So. People. Here's the deal:
The Ring is crazy manipulative. Like crazy manipulative. Also highly addictive. Also it corrupts mostly everyone who even looks at it like ever.it is magical heroin trufax guys It is highly persuasive and can do limited mindreading/telepathy stuff, and can gain a whole lot of control over most minds/wills given the time. TIME REQUIRED VARIES.
It can curse folks.
It can turn itself and folks invisible on the physical plane. They are highly visible on the non physical plane.
With the exception of invisibility, which requires physical contact, cursing, which requires conscious direction, and mindreading, which doesn't work so well from a distance, these powers are on all the time, including over the network. HOWEVER, the effect is much more watered down then it would be for someone meeting him in person. Over the network, in text the effect is all but nonexistent, video is the most effective (though still far less then if he was next to you), and voice is a happy medium. MOSTLY THE EXTENT OF ANY INFLUENCE HE HAS OVER THE COMMUNICATOR is to ping people as interesting and someone they want to get to know better.
So with this in mind: if your character is God, a god, the manifestation of something like a period of time, or something similarly unusual, the Ring may not work on them at all. This is up to you!
For everyone else, everything the Ring does requires time. How long it takes varies from person to person, ranging from split seconds to years to decades, and so forth. If you want to avoid all this evil, just say as much and we can assume they're one of the more absurdly strong-willed ones.
(If you don't want the ring to TRY to corrupt them, though, it may be best to just avoid interacting with it altogether, as that's what it tries to do by default, and what most of its powers are skewed towards)
If you want to opt out of everything, tell me and I'll do my best avoid your characters. For everyone else, please fill out the following:
Thank you for your time.

Date: 2010-08-31 05:35 pm (UTC)Would the Ring have power over them? If he sees it, maybe, but he's got to be in the same space with it otherwise he'll just think that the voices in his head is another manifestation of someone's mutant powers.
(if the answer is 'no,' feel free to skip the next three questions)
Is it allowed to manipulate/corrupt them? Again, that depends if he's paying attention and notices it's the ring talking. He'll most likely get a bad vibe from it and avoid it. (After all, if he talks to the network about it, most will think he's off his rocker so that's not going to happen. He certainly will be curious though. XD)
If so, what do you feel is a plausible timeframe for its effects to be noticeable? Months, the quickest, weeks.
Is it allowed to read their minds/use telepathy and to what extent? Yes! Sheldon's mind is a trap by itself and it's not exactly filled with the typical life.
Curse them? Yes.
Would the Ring&any related parties be invisible to them? That depends if he's paying attention to it.
Anything else I should know: Sheldon's not much for the supernatural or the mystical but he has shown signs that he does believe in a it a smidgen. He's mostly a concrete thinker so any abstract thoughts that come into his mind from the ring could be dismissed as just another flashback or a telepath that's gone a little overboard with their power.
Since Sheldon is mostly about secrets, the Ring could be attracted to the fact that he's killed before and without remorse even if it was for a purpose.
